ThamesHospital is made up of several buildings varying in age, with some over 100 years old. In addition to the new Thames Clinical Centre, which combines the Emergency Department, Outpatient Clinics and Radiology, a new In-Patient Unit (IPU) and a new Primary Birthing Unit will be constructed. Other parts of the hospital will undergo limited refurbishment. Current timelines (as at March 2005) include:

 

ThamesHospital In-Patient Unit:

Begin construction of IPU Started in 2006

Commissioning late August 2008

 

ThamesHospital Primary Birthing Unit:

Construction and commissioning timed to coincide with the IPU.

 

Thames Clinical Centre:

Demolition prior to new construction October 2006

Site preparation and begin construction December 2006

Commissioning late December 2007

 

One contractor will be selected for all ThamesHospital construction projects. From the recent Registration of Interest phase. Waikato DHB will go out to selected Tenderers for the Thames construction requirements on 24 October 2005. The successful Tenderer will commence construction in January next year.

 

Upgrades at the WaikatoHospital will include the construction of a multi-story carpark and a new Waikato Clinical Centre. Linked with the clinical centre will be new and refurbished areas to accommodate:

 

· A new emergency and radiology departments

· A new intensive care unit

· A new rehabilitation unit on the west side of Pembroke Street with a linking bridge to the main hospital

· A new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

· An upgrade of the Delivery Suite

· Additional operating rooms

 

Although not part of SCR scope, the Project is also co-ordinating the construction of a fourth Linear Accelerator Bunker, which began in May 2005 and set for completion in November 2005. Current construction timelines (as at October 2005) include:

Waikato Clinical Centre: 

Phase 1 construction begins Started in June 2007

Phase 2 construction begins January 2010

 

Architectural design of new buildings and extent of refurbishment is still being confirmed. Timelines for buildings not listed above are still being finalised.
