Oz Minerals owns 100% of the Prominent Hill copper-gold project.

In August 2006, Oz Minerals (Oxiana) Board of Directors formally approved development of the Prominent Hill copper-gold mine. The project will include development of an open-pit mine, and a conventional grinding and floatation processinng plant with an 8mtpa capacity. The mine will have an initial life of 10 years. The initial pit will be 480m deep x 1.4km long and 1.2km wide. The ore treatment at Prominent Hill would be by a conventional copper-gold floatation plant to produce copper and gold concentrates.

Approximately 250 people will be required in construction by the end of 2006. This will peak at more than 600 people a year in the following years and reach a steady operation of about 400 people once production commences in 2008.

The estimated overall capital costs of the project total A$775 million. Off-site facilities include high voltage power supply, water supply, railway spur line construction and new port facilities. On-site infrastructure includes construction of the accommodation village and associated services, as well as access and site roads and a tailings dam.
